Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal data when you use double-glazing-windows.co.uk.
Last updated: October 2026
1. Who we are
Double Glazing Windows UK ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at double-glazing-windows.co.uk (the "Site"), a directory that helps homeowners find double glazing and home-improvement installers. We are the data controller responsible for your personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can reach us at info@double-glazing-windows.co.uk.
2. The data we collect
We collect and process the following categories of personal data:
- Enquiry & quote data — the name, email address, telephone number, postcode and job details you submit when you request a quote or contact a business through the Site.
- Account data — if you register as a business owner: your name, email address, business details, billing address and login credentials.
- Business listing data — information about businesses shown in the directory, some of which is compiled from publicly available sources (see section 3).
- Payment data — where you buy a paid listing or advertising, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details; we receive limited transaction information (such as a transaction reference and the status of the payment).
- Usage & technical data — your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed and referral source, collected through cookies and analytics (see our Cookie Policy).
- Correspondence — the content of messages you send us and our replies.
3. Business information from public sources
Our directory includes information about installers and businesses, some of which is compiled from publicly available sources (for example a company's own website, public business registers and openly published contact details). This information is published in the legitimate interest of helping homeowners find local services. If you are a business owner and wish to correct, claim or remove your listing, please contact us at info@double-glazing-windows.co.uk and we will action reasonable requests promptly.
4. How and why we use your data (legal bases)
- To pass your enquiry to the business you selected so they can provide a quote — on the basis of taking steps at your request prior to entering a contract, and our legitimate interests in operating the directory.
- To provide and administer business accounts and paid listings — performance of our contract with you.
- To take payment for paid listings and advertising — performance of a contract and compliance with our legal obligations (e.g. accounting).
- To operate, secure and improve the Site and understand how it is used — our legitimate interests.
- To send service messages and, where you have opted in, marketing — consent and/or legitimate interests. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
- To comply with the law and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims — legal obligation and legitimate interests.
5. Sharing your data
When you submit an enquiry, we share the details of that enquiry with one or more businesses so they can respond to you. This applies even if you enquire from a specific business’s profile page: we usually share it with that business, but we may also make the same enquiry available to a limited number of other suitable businesses — for example where the business you contacted has no contact details on file, cannot be reached, or is unlikely to respond, or so that you can receive competing quotes (see our Terms & Conditions). If you submit a general “get quotes” request, we share it with a limited number of businesses we consider may be able to help. In either case we send any one enquiry to a maximum of 5 businesses, chosen on the basis of relevance (such as area, service, availability and plan) and in a way that aims to distribute enquiries fairly between eligible businesses; the recipients may therefore include businesses other than any particular firm you had in mind. Each such business is an independent data controller and will handle your data under its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for how third-party businesses use data you ask us to send them.
We also share data with trusted service providers who help us run the Site, including our hosting provider, our payment processor (Stripe) and our analytics provider, and we may disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights. We do not sell your personal data.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep enquiry data only as long as necessary to pass it to the relevant business and to deal with any follow-up or dispute, and then delete or anonymise it. Account and transaction records are kept for as long as your account is active and for the periods required by law (for example, tax and accounting records for six years). Usage data is retained for a limited period for analytics.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your data; to have inaccurate data corrected; to have data erased; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing already carried out). To exercise any of these rights, email info@double-glazing-windows.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.
10. Children
The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time by posting a new version on this page. Please check back periodically.
