Replacement windows and doors in England have to meet the Building Regulations (Approved Document L) — a limiting U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, or a Window Energy Rating of at least band B — and they must be no worse than the units they replace. A FENSA- or CERTASS-registered installer can self-certify that compliance and register the work with your local authority, so you get a certificate without arranging building control separately.
